School Staff Allegedly Failed to Intervene in Bullying Incident — Demand Justice

Target: Mark Schweer, Lewis Central Superintendent

Goal: Fire bus driver and monitor for allegedly doing nothing while bullies held a girl down and wrote “loser” on her forehead.

A ten-year-old girl was bullied by two other students on the bus — they reportedly held her down, wrote “loser” on her forehead, and drew mustache on her upper lip. A photo shows her with permanent marker all over her face. “She was heartbroken,” her father says. The victim says she felt sad and scared during the incident. Her parents say the school bus driver and the bus monitor did nothing to stop the bullying, so they’ve had to turn to the police to ask for help.

The principal told news reporters that only some of the school buses have surveillance cameras, and while the parents said the incident would’ve been on camera, the principal says it wasn’t. When asked about the lack of action on the school’s behalf, the principal seemed indifferent as he discussed the school’s “policy” regarding bullying. The policy, which starts by just making a phone call to the parents of the bully, stipulates that bullying must become a repeat offense before any real punishment is doled out

Bullying is serious, and can cause lasting damage to young people who are victimized. Whether or not a school bus has surveillance cameras, the adults in charge should be prepared to take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all students. Sign this petition to demand that the bus driver and monitor be fired for doing nothing to help this young girl.

Dear Mr. Schweer,

A 1o-year-old girl was reportedly the victim of bullying on the school bus, but the victim’s parents say the bus driver and monitor did nothing to stop it. The little girl says she was grabbed and held down as the bullies wrote “loser” on her forehead with a permanent marker and drew a mustache on her upper lip. Her father says she was heartbroken over the incident.

There is no excuse for the lack of action on behalf of the bus driver and monitor. Between the two of them, someone should have witnessed this upsetting incident of bullying, yet nobody interfered. We’re calling on you to demand that these staff members be fired for allowing a child to be bullied in an environment where all children should be protected.
