USDA: Restore Animal Cruelty Records Portal Now

Target: Peter Rhee, USDA Director of Digital Communications

Goal: Demand the USDA restore the animal abuse records on its website.

The USDA website has taken down its portal to records of animal cruelty, claiming that it wishes to protect the personal information of those listed as abusers. However, the reports have never listed any personal information. While the true motives and reasoning behind this move are not 100 percent clear, it is believed that the USDA may have been under pressure from the Trump administration.

Whatever the reason, this is a very poor decision on the part of the USDA. These records of animal cruelty are important for preserving the well-being of animals; as of right now the only way to access the records is to request them via the Freedom of Information Act, and such requests take a burdensomely long time to process. An issue like animal cruelty is far too important to be wrapped up in red tape.

Tragic though it is, animal abuse is far more common than many people think — from violence towards pets and strays, to cruel circus acts, to mismanagement of livestock — and keeping accessible records of such atrocities helps to spread awareness and fuel the fight for animal welfare. Sign this petition to demand that the USDA restore the portal to these records immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Rhee,

Your deletion of the portal to animal abuse records from the USDA website was a poor decision, and I would like to voice my opposition. You claim that it is to protect personal information, but the records have not shared this type of information in years. They tell only the story of the abused animals — information that the public has a right to know

These records are much too important to be blocked by red tape. Right now, the only way to obtain the information needed to stop animal cruelty is via requests per the Freedom of Information Act, and those often take much too long to process. Cruelty towards pets, wild animals, strays, and livestock must be stopped quickly, and these records play an integral role in spreading awareness and fueling this fight.

Do not allow animals to come to harm by shielding the public from records of their abuse. Put the portal to those records back on your website immediately.

Sincerely,

  1. I have a right like other folks and demand that scum are not protected and if other innocent lives can be saved then these lives mean more than the mentally unwell perpetrators who inflict evil on these angels
These people are just as evil to protect them and their privacy? Words are beyond me to even think that because once that line is crossed there is no turning back and really? If one of these scum abused one of your pets then I bet you wouldn’t be protecting their privacy and history will repeat itself because if you’re born rotten then it’s in your nature and who in their right mind would want to protect them and their privacy? Only people not in their right mind
If you call yourself a human then you have the ability to use your brain and question whether the law of privacy in this case that puts innocent lives at risk should even be considered
Animals are earths gifts and if you mess with mother nature then she will retaliate and we wonder why the world is what it is today
Its your choice but just know that a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye will always apply because every action has a consequence
the karmic wheel will never stop turning and what goes around comes around because it’s the law of the universe so if you choose evil over good then you shall be rewarded with bad karma so enjoy forever

  2. Removing these records is disgusting and despicable. This will protect animal abusers and allow them to keep secretly committing atrocities against poor defenseless animals.

  3. WE WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS REPUBLICAN SNEAKY BEHAVIOR AT THE EXPENSE AND TORTURE OF THESE PROTECTED ANIMALS. WE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THESE DOCUMENTS ARE POSTED AGAIN AND THE TRANSPARENCY RECORDS PROCESS IS RESTORED ON THE USDA WEBSITE LIKE IT WAS BEFORE THE ELECTION. WE WILL NOT LET THIS GO IT IS UN-AMERICAN!

  4. RESTORE THE ANIMAL WELFARE DATA NOW.
