Protect National Monument and Ancestral Land from Desecration

Target: Rob Bishop, Representative of Utah

Goal: Protect 1.3 million acres of natural land in Utah from destruction by the Republican-held congress.

Republicans are fighting to eliminate Bears Ears National Monument, 1.3 million acres of federal land in Utah established by President Obama before he left office. Led by Utah Representative Rob Bishop, Republicans would like to overturn the act that established the protected natural environment and ancestral land of Native Americans.

President Obama established this land under the Antiquities Act, which seeks to preserve and protect ancient land from destruction. However, Republicans believe that the president overstepped his power and set aside a piece of land that could be used for drilling. In other words, the Republicans believe the land is being wasted.

Our natural environment is suffering. Untouched parcels of land are shrinking and being replaced by sprawling factories, rapid development, and drilling wells. The little land we have left should be protected for generations, not destroyed for short-lived economic gain. Sign the petition to demand that the Republicans not move forward with plans to eliminate this important piece of land.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Representative Bishop,

I’m deeply troubled by your recent statements about eliminating the recently established Bears Ears National Monument. This 1.3 million acres of land is one of the largest monuments of its kind and protects ancestral Native American land from development and destruction. However, you would like to use this land for drilling.

Our environment, our planet and its millions of species, are under attack. Untouched natural wonders like Bears Ears National Monument should be protected for future generations, not exploited for drilling, for a short-term economic boom that will fade as soon as the well dries up. I ask that you walk back your plans for eliminating this national monument.

Sincerely,

  1. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!! ALL LAND RIGHTFULLY BELONGS TO NATIVE AMERICANS! LONG STORY SHORT…PUBLIC LAND BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE…NOT THE GOVERNMENT SO THEY CAN JUST DESTROY IT FOR THEIR OWN SELFISH GAIN!!

  2. The attacks on the environment and wildlife so far by the Trump administration are staggering. It’s as if they are hell-bent on selling out America to big businesses so they can destroy the land and get rich off it. It’s absolutely disgusting. Bears Ears National Monument should STAY protected, as designated by Obama.

  3. END THE ATTACKS ON THE ENVIRONMENT NOW.

  4. What kind of belief does it take, to think that you have the God giving power, to do, what you are proposing?

  5. I am continually astonished at the callousness of our officials. These national lands belong to us all. HANDS OFF!!

  6. Nadine brundage says:

Already getting sick over what our new government is thinking of doing to the environment. No thought of how this will affect our future. Animals will die, forests ripped apart, and the list goes on. Wake up people before it’s too late.

  7. Marilyn Glasgow says:

These stupid, Republicans are hell bent on destroying everything that lives, be it humans, animals or the beautiful public lands such as this. This is the country where they also live and they are going to continue their ravaging until it won’t be recognized. I am not able to understand what is inside of these people to make them so mean and cruel. They possess no morals, ethics or a conscience. Leave this land alone. It doesn’t belong to you.

  8. This is not what Teddy Roosevelt intended. National lands belong to the people, not Corporations.

  9. THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING AS THE HYPOCRITES IN POWER PROCEED FULL BORE TO DESTROY OUR ENVIRONMENT AND ALL LIFE ON THIS PLANET FOR THEIR OWN SELFISH REASONS.

The EXTREMIST rethuglicons under mr.drumph are the WORST of the worst! Nothing is sacred to the greedy corporate PIRATES that intend to strip the forest clean to, and I quote,”prevent forest fires” & drill fracking wells everywhere with no restrictions on what kind of crap they put into the ground where our WATER wells are, all in the name of ‘American energy’! That is only two examples of the many ways that this administration is undoing ANY protections we have to protect us from the cruelty and greed of big multinational corporations!

    • Sheila Murphy says:

The really criminally stupid thing is that oil companies have absolutely NO NEED to drill in National Forests, the Outer Continental Shelf and the Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. “The U.S. Geological Survey says a deposit in West Texas is the largest continuous oil and gas deposit ever discovered in the United States”—“an area known as the Wolfcamp shale contains 20 billion barrels of oil and 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.” (NPR, Nov. 16, 2016).Why can’t the oil and gas companies concentrate on oil and gas that is easily available instead of threatening lands preserved for all Americans to enjoy.

Sickening act against nature. If course they will have their greedy hands out for more bribe money. And they all claim to be Christian when it comes to women’s rights but not when it comes destroying our last wild places and wildlife
