Target: Congressman Jason Chaffetz
Goal: Support the move to save 3.3 million acres of federal land from being devalued and sold.
Thanks to citizens who voiced their opposition, including petitions like this one on ForceChange, the order to sell off millions of acres of national public land has been withdrawn. Congressman Jason Chaffetz, who initially proposed House Bill 621, said he had a change of heart because “groups I support and care about…fear it sends the wrong message.”
The bill would have disposed of an area of public land the size of Connecticut, causing environmentalists as well as sportsmen and hunters to join together in opposition. Not only did this bill threaten the lands themselves, including the wildlife and natural resources contained there, it also put in jeopardy the $646 billion in revenue from outdoor recreation in public lands. Sign below to support the withdrawal of this bill and the protection of our federal lands.
Dear Congressman Chaffetz,
Thank you for hearing the voices of the American people and seeing the true value of the 3.3 million acres of land that would have been disregarded by House Bill 621.
The environment, our nation, and our economy are all much better off for the preservation of our federal lands. They are irreplaceable, and there is much more harm to be done than good in selling them off. I strongly support the withdrawal of the bill and the move to keep and protect these lands.
