Justice For Wallaby Found In Squalid Conditions

Target: Thomas C. Krumpter, Acting Police Commissioner of the Nassau County Police Department

Goal: Justice for wallaby kidnapped and kept in a man’s garage.

An adult male wallaby was found trapped in a man’s garage in Long Island, New York. The animal was living in squalid conditions, despite the fact that its alleged captor, Larry Wallach, was a self-described expert on exotic animals. The garage was poorly heated, covered in feces, and the wallaby had not been properly fed or given water. It was reported as being 40 pounds under its normal body weight.

It is illegal to keep wallabies as pets under Nassau County law, as they are said to be quite dangerous despite appearing cute and cuddly. Furthermore, it is illegal and unethical to capture exotic animals as pets. Wildlife belongs in the wild, and although exotic pet seekers may have the best of intentions, a regular house, apartment, or garage is completely unsuitable for a wild animal. Thankfully, the SPCA is seeking a new home for the wallaby, one that will accommodate its needs.

It has not yet been determined how the wallaby ended up in Wallach’s garage, but the poor creature showed signs of maltreatment and suffering. Should the investigation find Wallach guilty of kidnapping the animal, he must held accountable. Sign this petition to demand Wallach be taken in for questioning, and if found guilty, punished to the full extent of the law.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Commissioner Krumpter,

A wallaby was found trapped in the garage of self-described exotic-animal expert Larry Wallach, who may or may not have kidnapped the animal. There was no food or water in sight, the garage was not properly heated, and the area was covered in feces.

Not only is it illegal to keep wallabies as pets in Nassau County, it is unethical to keep exotic animals captive. No matter how well a person thinks they can care for them, exotic animals have special dietary, habitat, and behavioral needs that cannot be met in an ordinary home.

It is unknown how the animal found its way into Wallach’s garage, but kidnapping cannot be ruled out. Wallach must be fully questioned and made to tell the whole truth, and if he did capture the animal he must be punished for not only breaking a law, but for putting a wild animal’s well-being in jeopardy.

Sincerely,
