Tell Trump to Listen to Elon Musk’s Carbon Tax Plan

Target: United States President Donald Trump

Goal: Adopt a revenue-neutral carbon tax plan to help combat climate change.

Elon Musk stated in a White House meeting that the best way to incentivize companies to use cleaner energy sources would be to implement a carbon tax. He successfully argued that such a tax makes sense from both an economic and environmental standpoint. As one of the members of Trump’s economic transition team, his words have the potential to be influential–especially when so few of the voices surrounding Trump will acknowledge the scientific facts regarding global warming.

Elon Musk demonstrated support for Rex Tillerson, who had previously stated that a carbon tax would be an efficient way to drive cleaner energy. He had also at one time admitted that climate change was real, and that “action was needed.” Tillerson had even acknowledged that the cost of carbon should be embedded in economic decisions. Musk echoed these sentiments, and called for a plan which would make sure that money raised by a carbon tax is passed back to taxpayers through periodic dividends.

Musk’s words sound like one of the few voices of reason in environmental policy currently taking place at the White House. He must be heard so that we can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prevent further climate change. The people who contribute the most to these emissions should be the ones who pay for them.

If no action is taken, science tells us that the consequences are dire. More humans and animals will likely die due to the effects of severe weather in the form of natural disasters and drought. Let’s urge Trump to consider Elon Musk’s sound advice, and to take into account the previous recommendations from Tillerson so that a shift in policy can take place. Sign this petition to say that you support this recommendation and urge Trump to adopt a carbon tax.

Dear President Trump,

Climate change is a proven fact. We know that fossil fuel combustion results in the release of carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. While there are some close to you who have gone out their way to deny this, there are others who have stated their support for the scientific consensus that global warming is real. For example, your Secretary of State pick Rex Tillerson, as Exxon CEO, previously acknowledged that climate change was real, and that action to address it was necessary. More recently, Elon Musk, a member of your economic transition team, made a very sound proposal for the implementation of a tax-revenue neutral carbon tax. This plan would incentivize energy companies to invest in cleaner technologies, and also pass on money raised by these taxes to the consumer.

I, too, believe that a carbon tax is a necessary step toward ensuring a prosperous and environmentally sound future for America. We must acknowledge the truth that reducing carbon dioxide emissions is necessary, and take bold steps in this direction.

Let’s move toward future-oriented energy technology and invest in America’s future. I urge you to act now to adopt a carbon tax to prevent the devastating effects of global warming.

  1. People are taxed to death already. The last thing people need is another tax. Instead of using tax dollars for outrageous things such as 3.8 billion a year to Israel for military purposes – which includes the ETHNIC CLEANSING of Palestine – they should use the money THEY ALREADY HAVE to clean up the air/environment. Don’t be fooled – this is another tax scam.

  2. “…one of the few voices of reason in environmental policy currently taking place at the White House. He must be heard…”

Don’t get a chubby by deluding yourselves into thinking that the Huckster has President Trump’s ear and that he’s involved in any meaningful way.

I’d bet that Trump has to unplug his BS detector when Elon enters the room, lest Musk be alerted to the fact that his shuck-and-jive won’t fly.
