Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States
Goal: Revoke recent executive order threatening to withdraw funding from cities that harbor undocumented immigrants.
Living up to his campaign promises to crack down on immigration, President Trump signed an executive order this week targeting the hundreds of U.S. cities and counties that offer refuge for America’s 11 million undocumented immigrants, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Under this order, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been instructed to explore ways to deprive these immigrant sanctuaries of federal grants, which add up to billions of dollars.
Several leaders from these sanctuary cities and counties have spoken out against the order, boldly stating that they will do everything in their power to protect their regions’ sanctuary status. However, as long as the order is in place, these sanctuary cities remain vulnerable. Tell President Trump to revoke this outrageous executive order immediately.
Dear Mr. President,
Your executive order on sanctuary cities will not, as you’ve claimed, make America safer. If you would take the time to check your facts, rather than relying on “alternative” ones, you would know that undocumented immigrants do not contribute any more to crime in this country than regular U.S. citizens do. The idea that a human being is inherently dangerous and criminal simply because they come from another country is the very definition of xenophobia. That is not the kind of leadership that I want for this great country.
I stand in solidarity with the leaders of these sanctuaries who have stood up against your unjust order. These cities should not be stripped of federal funding for exercising basic human decency and kindness. I ask that you revoke this horrendous executive order immediately.
