Stop Trump From Reviving the Keystone XL Pipeline

Target: President Donald Trump

Goal: Halt the Keystone XL Pipeline project, to prevent environmental devastation.

President Trump has revived the Keystone XL Pipeline project, which was previously rejected by President Obama. The proposed pipeline would carry an estimated 800,000 barrels of oil each day from the Canadian tar sands down to Port Arthur on the gulf coast. The tar sands are some of the dirtiest fossil fuel resources; the production of a single barrel of tar sands oil emits three times the amount of greenhouse gases released by conventional oil.

While proponents of the pipeline claim in will produce tens of thousands of jobs, these jobs are largely temporary. According to the US State Department, of an estimated 42,000 jobs created over the course of the pipeline, only 35 would remain after the two-year construction process. A far greater amount of permanent jobs could be produced through investments in renewable energy. However, the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline may spur further investment in the tar sands and lock the economy to fossil fuels for decades.

Over 85 percent of proven fossil fuel resources must remain in the ground for the world to avoid catastrophic climate change. Any investment in fossil fuel infrastructure is incompatible with combatting climate change. Sign our petition and demand that President Trump halt plans to build the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Dear President Trump,

I was alarmed to see that you have revived the Keystone XL Pipeline project, along with the claims that it will contribute a significant number of jobs to the U.S. economy. While it is true that the pipeline will create 42,000 jobs over the two-year construction period, it will contribute only 35 permanent positions. Investments in solar or wind power, on the other hand, would create more permanent positions and lead to durable growth in the economy.

It is an indisputable fact that human burning of fossil fuels contributes to global climate change. Climate change is set to cost the world economy trillions of dollars over the next century, and the United States will not escape its share of this cost. Over 85 percent of proven fossil fuel resources must remain unburned for the world to escape catastrophic and potentially runaway climate change. Investments in fossil fuel infrastructure such as the Keystone XL pipeline are incompatible with any attempts to mitigate climate change. I urge you to halt all plans to permit the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.

The world looks on in horror as Trump callously implements his dictatorial plans. Well, if enough people speak up, he will have to listen.

  2. Again, the Native Americans are being screwed..Haven’t we done enough wrong to them…. EVERYONE! Speak up for justice for Standing Rock!!!!!

  3. The horror is the president and his unintelligent habit of going after things he clearly doesn’t grasp. I truly believe that no matter how well he is counseled by his cabinet and/or Congress, he will plow away with his own dangerous way against anything that is obvious to the sane thinking people who recognize disaster when we see it. Voice up people and fight for our planet’s existence.

You can’t stop Trump. There are too many “don’t-give-a-damn” people – not only in the US – but in the world – who look at what happens to the environment and wildlife as acceptable collateral damage. More important to them is what “they” want: more energy no matter what the “real” cost – and just plain “more” of everything. We have already passed the point-of-no-return – just look at how much damage we have already done. To think things are going to actually change in time to prevent the collapse of life on earth “as we would like to envision it” is living in a fantasy world. Human population numbers are completely out of control. That along with our own human nature – and the concept of “creeping normality” – are simply taking their toll – and the reality is that there is literally not much to be done. Any hope is merely wishful thinking – but then we can’t give up trying. The big question is: are we “all” really even “trying that hard”??? Seriously? – – –

  5. Trump does not even believe in global warming… good luck u people .
