Target: Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House of Representatives
Goal: Do not axe vital government programs just to cut federal spending.
Even before the inauguration, Trump’s transition team is outlining plans for the “Heritage Blueprint,” which will drastically cut government spending at the cost of slashing funds and even completely eliminating essential departments and programs. Funds would be cut for the Civil Rights and Environment and Natural Resource divisions of the Department of Justice, and research in nuclear physics and advanced scientific computing research at the Department of Energy. The programs at risk of elimination include the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, Minority Business Development Agency, the International Trade Administration, Violence Against Women Grants, the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, the panel on climate change and the Paris Agreement, and many others.
These programs are vital for the well-being of our planet and its preservation, for our economy, for protecting human rights, and for preserving our arts and culture. There are countless other ways that our government could save money, including reducing and reallocating military spending. America would not be America without its dedication to the rights of its people, its culture, and furthering the arts and sciences to move toward a brighter future. Sign below to demand protection of these essential government programs.
Dear Speaker Ryan,
Please do not eliminate valuable and essential federal programming and funding in the name of the reduction of government spending. While reducing federal spending is a worthy goal, axing programs that protect our planet, protect our human rights, support our artists and scientists, and further us as a nation is not the way to do it.
The proposed cuts that the “Heritage Blueprint” would make to the Departments of Justice and Energy, as well as cutting programs like the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, essentially eliminate the lifeblood of America as we know it. Our country is dedicated to protecting the rights of its citizens, celebrating culture, and pushing toward a brighter future through sciences and the arts. I urge you not to axe these vital programs.
