Target: Calvin Williams, Cleveland Chief of Police
Goal: Bring disciplinary charges against officers for the murder of 12-year-old Tamir Rice.
Police officers Timothy Loehmann, Frank Garmback and William Cunningham, who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice while he was playing in the park with a pellet gun, are facing disciplinary charges but not for killing Tamir. Justice must be served for this innocent 12-year-old boy.
Officer Loehmann is being charged for lying about his employment history on his Cleveland Police application. Loehmann failed to mention on his application that he was found to be “emotionally immature” and had an “inability to emotionally function” at a former job at a different police station. Officer Garmback is being charged for the “improper” way he drove the car up to the scene.
The police department still seems to stand by the statement issued by the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association that they “did nothing wrong that day,” and neither of the officers have faced any consequences for killing an innocent young boy. The Grand Jury may have failed to indict them, but this makes it even more important that the police department hold their officers accountable for their actions.
Tamir Rice and his family deserve justice, and the public needs to have confidence that the officers meant to protect them are fit for the job and will take responsibility for their actions. Sign below to demand that these officers be held accountable for killing an innocent boy.
Dear Chief Williams,
It is vital that police officers serve and protect citizens and that their communities are able to trust and depend on them in order to feel safe. This cannot happen if officers are not held accountable for their actions, especially when those actions have resulted in the death of a child.
It is admirable that these officers will face disciplinary charges for other actions that are not up to the standard of integrity of the Cleveland Police Department, but the fact that the department will not hold them responsible for the worst of their actions is unacceptable. Tamir Rice and his family deserve justice, and their community deserves protection from emotionally-stable and worthy officers. I urge you to charge Officers Loehmann, Garmback and Cunningham for killing this 12-year-old boy.
