Target: Andrew Rowan, President of Humane Society International
Goal: Relocate allegedly abused, endangered tiger to a sanctuary.
A shocking story has recently surfaced of alleged abuse against an endangered Siberian tiger at a Chinese circus. Footage shows the tiger being forced to lie on a platform, her head pressed down with a pole by one circus worker while another one quickly binds her limbs with rope. The tiger is left completely immobilized while she is used as a prop for people to “ride” for souvenir photographs.
Siberian tigers are endangered, with only a few hundred of them remaining in the wild. This tiger should be in a protected wildlife sanctuary or reserve, not living in a cage and being forced to perform such degrading acts.
A disappointing lack of animal welfare laws in China make everything that this tiger is allegedly being subjected to completely legal. Of course, that doesn’t make the treatment that’s evident in the footage any less cruel. Demand that this tiger be rescued and relocated to a reputable sanctuary by signing below.
Dear Mr. Rowan,
I was deeply disturbed by recently released footage of an endangered Siberian tiger being used as a photo prop in a Chinese circus in Yiyang city, Hunan. Although it remains unclear exactly when the footage was filmed, it is perfectly clear that a circus is no place for any animal, much less an endangered one.
I understand that even your prestigious position within the Humane Society does not personally give you the authority to seize abused animals. However, I trust that Humane Society International’s broad network of activists and advocates can mobilize under your direction to save this endangered animal from a life of misery and relocate her to a reputable sanctuary.
