Target: Vice President-elect Mike Pence
Goal: Do not repeal the Affordable Care Act without a suitable replacement plan.
The Republican “repeal and delay” approach to Obamacare would allow the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to be dismantled with absolutely no replacement strategy, and a gap as long as six months before plans for a replacement are required. Reports show that this repeal would add $137 billion to the deficit over the next decade, and cause 24 million people to become uninsured. Without the health care they would otherwise have had access to, estimates indicate that nearly 36,000 more people would die every year.
Polls show that an extremely low number of Americans–only one in five–support the Republican’s strategy to repeal without a replacement. Nearly half of American voters are against repealing the law in the first place, as it has seen the lowest number of uninsured Americans since before the Great Recession. Republicans may have won the first Senate vote regarding the dismantling of Obamacare, but they cannot be allowed to deprive 20 million Americans of health care with no other options. Sign below to demand a plan to replace the ACA before repealing it.
Dear Vice President-elect Pence,
Republicans’ “repeal and delay” strategy regarding the dismantling of the Affordable Care Act would cause 24 million Americans to lose health insurance and add billions of dollars to the deficit. Polls show that only 1 in 5 voters support this approach, while nearly half of Americans are against repealing the ACA to begin with. This move to dismantle Obamacare without any replacement plans in place is extremely dangerous to the country and its citizens. I urge you to consider the wishes and well-being of millions of Americans, and do not allow Obamacare to be repealed without a suitable replacement plan in place.
