Tell Trump to Stop Denying Global Warming

Target: President-elect Donald Trump

Goal: In light of further scientific evidence of global warming, publicly acknowledge its existence and take steps to combat it.

New scientific research supports the results of controversial studies that found there has been no slowdown in global warming for the past 15-20 years, as was widely believed. Since the year 2000, ocean temperatures have warmed at nearly double the rate that was previously estimated.

A new analysis in the journal Science Advances replicated findings which show that ocean temperatures were being underestimated consistently by major global climate models. The ocean buoys that measure temperature are prone to reporting cooler temperatures than the ship-based system that recorded this data in the 1990s. This means there has not been a “pause” in the warming rate in the past 2 decades — rather, with this “cold bias” taken into account, the warming rate has stayed consistent with what it was from 1950-1999, when CO2 emissions caused notably high warming rates. In light of this new evidence, it is more important than ever that we take steps to combat global warming, and this cannot be done with a president who denies its existence. Sign below to demand that President-elect Trump stop denying global warming.

Dear President-elect Trump,

New scientific evidence has supported findings that global warming has not slowed down in the past two decades. The journal Science Advances replicated findings of past studies, and found that the present buoy-method of measuring ocean temperature is prone to reporting colder temperatures than the ship-based method used at the end of the 20th century. This means, accounting for the “cold bias”, the rate of ocean warming is nearly double previous estimations. It is vital that we take action to protect our planet. I urge you to publicly acknowledge the overwhelming scientific evidence of global warming’s existence, and begin to take steps to combat it.
