Success: Decision to Gut Office of Congressional Ethics Reversed

Target: Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Members of the House of Representatives

Goal: Thank the House of Representatives for halting plans to eliminate the independent ethics office overseeing Congress.

As a result of major public outcry, including petitions like this one at ForceChange, House Republicans have changed course and backed off their proposal to effectively kill the Office of Congressional Ethics. This measure would have been extremely dangerous for the country had it passed, greatly increasing the potential for corruption to breed in Congress by weakening the independent ethics office that Congresspeople must answer to.

House Republicans initially voted this measure through without warning, and against the advice of top Republicans including House Speaker Paul Ryan. This move was met with a firestorm of criticism from American citizens. Thankfully the voices of the people have been heard, and for the foreseeable future the Office of Congressional Ethics will remain intact. Thank Speaker Ryan and the House of Representatives for upholding ethics and acting in the best interest of the country.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Speaker Ryan,

Thank you for upholding the high standards of ethics that Congress must be held to, and reversing the plans to gut the Office of Congressional Ethics. The last thing our country needs is more opportunity for corruption to flourish. Thank you for hearing the voices of the American people and acting in their best interest.

Sincerely,

This is great news! And it’s such an encouragement to know that we the people can, do, and will make a difference. Please check out the excellent book “The Most Dangerous Superstition” by Larken Rose. We need to stand together against tyranny.
