Demand Trump Acknowledge Russian Hacking

Target: President-elect Donald Trump

Goal: Stop glossing over evidence of Russia’s dangerous attempts to influence U.S. affairs through cyber intrusion.

More incidents of Russian cyberattacks have been brought to the attention of government officials, and President-elect Donald Trump still has not spoken out against Russia for its alleged interference in the U.S. election. The CIA stated in December that it is highly confident that Russia tried to influence the election in favor of Trump. Since then, FBI Director James Comey, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, President Obama, and most congressional Republicans have backed that determination and spoken out against Russia for these alleged actions. Further attacks have been discovered, which is a cause for real concern that the Russian hacks were even more extensive than previously realized. All Donald Trump will say, however, is, “I know a lot about hacking, and hacking is a very hard thing to prove. So it could be somebody else. And also — I know things that other people don’t know — and so they cannot be sure of the situation.”

These cyberattacks pose a real threat to the country, and the government has issued sanctions in response to this Russian harassment, including expelling 35 Russian diplomats from the country. Officials would not reveal specifics about the new discoveries or give a count of how many new cases there are, but Donald Trump seems to be the only one refusing to take this situation seriously. Demand that he publicly denounce the Russian government for its cyber operations.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Elect Trump,

In light of the discovery of even more incidents of Russian hacking and cyberattacks against the U.S. government, it is vital that you publicly denounce this foreign interference. The integrity of the democracy of the United States cannot be allowed to be compromised by a foreign government.

The CIA stated its confidence that Russia attempted to influence the election, and officials from the FBI, National Intelligence, and the President himself have all supported this claim. It is time that you join them in denouncing this unprecedented and illegal interference in American affairs.

Sincerely,
