Target: David W. Prater, Oklahoma County District Attorney
Goal: Punish owner of dog found starving to death in a crate.
A dog was recently found starving, near death, and locked in a crate. The dog, a Boston Terrier named Twinkle, was found by a maintenance man who had entered the owner’s apartment to change light bulbs. According to authorities, there was no food or water left for the visibly emaciated dog, and there was a blanket put over her crate to keep her quiet.
Though authorities have not yet determined how long the dog was locked in the cage, they say that the signs of abuse were immediately apparent. The dog was reportedly confined for so long that she couldn’t walk properly. She had nails so overgrown that they were bending sideways, as well as open sores on her paws and joints from standing on wire for so long. Her fur was also covered in urine and feces, reports say.
According to the dog’s owner, Tramell Baker, he “had just not been taking very good care of the animal.” According to investigators, this looks more like willful neglect. Authorities are recommending that animal cruelty charges be laid against the owner. This would be a felony charge punishable by up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine. Sign the petition below to ask that charges are brought in this case.
Dear Mr. Prater,
A dog was recently found starving to death in a crate. A maintenance man entered the apartment of Tramell Baker, where he found a Boston Terrier left without food or water. The dog was visibly emaciated and showed signs of being left in the crate for a prolonged period of time, including injuries to the feet and joints from standing for so long. It was also reported that the dog, named Twinkle, had nails so overgrown that they were bending sideways, and her fur was caked with urine and feces.
While the owner admitted that he was just “not taking good care of the dog,” animal welfare officers say that this is much worse than that. This alleged willful neglect must not go unpunished. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek justice for this dog by ensuring that its owner is proportionately punished.
