Praise Successful Efforts to Retire Zoo Elephants to Sanctuary

Target: Scott Blais, CEO of Global Sanctuary for Elephants

Goal: Applaud the efforts to convince Mendoza Zoological Park to retire all of its elephants to a sanctuary.

The Mendoza Zoological Park in Argentina is known for previously holding “the world’s saddest polar bear” that unfortunately passed away this past year after spending 22 years in a concrete pit. However the zoo now has a new director, and one of his first decisions in this position is to release all the elephants to an accredited sanctuary.

Captivity can lead to an array of problems in elephants. The small confinement and the constant stream of people and loud noises can lead to extreme stress in these intelligent animals. It is cruel to continue exploiting these social, curious and incredibly smart animals for profit, and thankfully the Mendoza Zoological Park agrees.

Sign this petition and thank the Global Sanctuary for Elephants on working out this agreement with the Mendoza Zoological Park. It is clear their message of compassion and kindness is spreading, which leads to happier lives for humans and animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Blais,

Recently your organization worked hard with the Mendoza Zoological Park to make an agreement about the future of the zoo’s elephants. The zoo recently made the announcement that all the elephants will be retired to a sanctuary once the enclosure is done being built. Hearing this great news put a huge smile on my face.

Now these gentle, social and intelligent animals will no longer be forced to endure the large, loud crowds of people constantly swarming into the zoo. They will also have much more land that mimics their natural habitat. All of these positive changes will do wonders for the elephants physical and mental health.

Thank you for taking the initiative and promising these elephants a happier future. I can only hope more zoos follow in Mendoza Zoological Park’s footsteps.

Sincerely,

Dito Sheila’s comments. Well done! “The greatness of a nation and its morale progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” Mahatma Gandhi.

  4. Great news for these BEAUTIFUL ELEPHANTS!!!
It’s just so so sad that the poor old polar bear spent her whole life of 22 years depressed & lonely in a fucking concrete pit!!!! HOW BLOODY CRUEL. Hope the new Boss NEVER lets anything like this happen again!!!!!!!!!!!
    R.I.P ALL ANIMALSXXXXXXX

    • And YET too late for the polar bear! How sad and pathetic we are. Hopefully, 0 animals will be kept in zoos, 0 animals will be mistreated, 0 animals will be hunted, 0 exotic animals kept as pets, 0 animals trapped, 0 animals used in experimentation, 0 animals used in fights, 0 animals tossed to the curb, 0 animals will go extinct due to mankind’s stupidity. We will only truly show our humanity if and/or when the above happens and we find a way to survive as a species without hurting any animals period. The bad part is our numbers are way outpacing our planet’s resources and we need to curb them and quickly. We need to think beyond our own greediness, beyond our momentary wants. I highly doubt that will ever happen, because we think much too highly of ourselves and our place in the world.

  5. best thing for the elephants today.
