Target: Randall Stephenson, President of Boy Scouts of America
Goal: Demand that the Boy Scouts of America allow a transgender boy into the Cub Scouts.
An 8-year-old boy was kicked out of the Cub Scouts because he is transgender. The Boy Scouts of America has publicly stated that they would not exclude children based on sexual orientation, but that they consider gender identity a separate issue. Demand justice for this innocent boy.
“My identity is a boy. If I was them, I would let every person in the world go in. It’s right to do,” stated Joe Maldonado. He joined Pack 87 in Secaucus, New Jersey and was kicked out a month later, when they found out that he was transgender. Maldonado was assigned female at birth, but has identified as a male for over a year. His mother reported that it was the parents in the group who complained about her son, not the other children.
The Boy Scouts of America has declined to comment on this case. Sign below and demand that the Boy Scouts of America allow transgender children into their organization.
Dear President Stephenson,
An 8-year-old boy was kicked out of the Cub Scouts because he is transgender. The national Girl Scouts organization has accepted transgender members for years. We demand that you revise your admission criteria and allow transgender children into your program.
“Not one of the kids said, ‘You don’t belong here,'” stated Kristie Maldonado, the boy’s mother. She stated that it was the parents, not the scouts, who complained about her son’s gender identity. He is reportedly accepted as a boy at his school and by the other boys in his troop.
Transgender children should not be made to feel unwanted because of their identity. We demand that you allow transgender children into the Boy Scouts of America.
