Target: David O’Connor, President and CEO of the Madison Square Garden Company
Goal: Don’t perform for Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration after the president-elect has spoken harmfully about women and others.
The Radio City Rockettes will be performing at the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, a man who ran a campaign based on hatred and has outwardly admitted to sexually assaulting women because he is famous. After struggling to acquire any entertainment at the inauguration, the Rockettes are by far the most famous group performing at the event.
Not only will it be alarming to see a group of women perform for the president-elect’s enjoyment after he has so harmfully spoken about women, their looks, and their bodies, but it will be disturbing to see any group perform for a man who has disparaged a great majority of the American people. From Muslims and Latinos to the disabled and women, Trump ran a campaign defining and humiliating “the other,” a very dangerous method of propaganda.
The Rockettes, an American symbol since before the Great Depression, should not lower themselves to performing for such a controversial figure. To perform for Trump is to endorse his hateful actions and even more hateful words. To perform for Trump is to normalize his troubling behavior. Sign the petition to ask that the Madison Square Garden Company, managers of the Rockettes, pull the group from performing.
Dear Mr. O’Connor,
As President and CEO of the Madison Square Garden Company, you played a direct role in signing the Radio City Rockettes up for President-elect Trump’s inauguration. Trump is a man who has spoken so harmfully of women and their appearance and who has defended his actions of sexual assault. It is highly troubling to see a group of women performing for his entertainment.
In addition, Trump has not only spoken negatively about women, he has also spoken negatively about numerous other minority groups throughout the country. To have the Rockettes perform for this man is to not only ignore his troubling rhetoric, but to also normalize it and even condone it. I ask that you pull the Rockettes from the inauguration. To do so would be a symbol of acceptance and solidarity for all those who have been attacked by this man.
