Target: Mike Pence, Vice President-elect
Goal: Release details as to why Donald Trump’s transition team is requesting the names and positions of government employees who have a history of advocating for women’s equality and combating climate change.
Reports of Donald Trump’s transition team, which is headed by Mike Pence, asking for the names and positions of government employees in the Energy Department and State Department have caused alarm amongst some government employees. A letter sent to the State Department asked for specifics about funding for gender issues and the positions of employees who advocate for women’s rights, and a letter to the Energy Department asked for specific names of those who worked on the Paris Agreement. According to an undetailed response from Trump’s team, they are looking into strengthening these programs, but due to Trump’s past with women and his nomination of a climate change denier to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), many are still skeptical.
Trump’s team seems to be signaling out those who are working on issues his campaign has railed against, which has caused some to call these inquiries a “witch hunt.” The statement from Trump’s team did not detail why they needed exact names, and now many employees are afraid for their jobs.
Sign this petition to demand that Pence release more information explaining why Trump’s transition team is asking for specifics about certain government employees.
Dear Vice President-elect Pence,
News of Trump’s transition team requesting the names and positions of specific government employees is alarming. In what has been speculated to be a “witch hunt,” many are now afraid for their jobs and the work they have done for gender and women’s rights as well as to fight climate change.
Your recent statement attempting to assure people that you want to strengthen the programs in the Energy and State Departments was not convincing. I demand that you provide more information to help explain why Trump’s team needed the exact names and positions of people in these departments.
