Save Fish and Marine Environment in the Arabian Sea

Target: Devendra Fadnavis, CM of Maharashtra

Goal: Stop the construction of environmentally threatening memorial in the Arabian Sea.

There is currently a plan to build a memorial to an ancient warrior king in the Arabian Sea, off the coast of Mumbai. Although the plan has been approved by the government and the environmental ministry, some experts say it still poses many environmental threats, from oil spills to proper waste containment.

The memorial will be more or less a man-made island, where visitors will come to pay homage to the king. The main threat  the building of the memorial poses is the pollution from the boats that will bring the supplies and workers. The project would cover an area of 15 hectares, so about 37 acres, which will threaten countless marine species in the area. On top of the normal pollution risk, there is also a chance of oil spills or other mishaps that could drastically affect the ecosystem.

Experts also worry that the government has not planned properly for monsoon season weather and its effects. Many buildings  in the city have plans and procedures when it comes to weather events. This memorial as of now does not have any evacuation plan to get visitors off the island in case of a storm, and also has insufficient infrastructure for waste disposal and containment in the case of a monsoon.

Although the memorial has cultural significance for many, it poses environmental threats that need to be addressed before building this site.

PETITON LETTER:

Dear Mr. Fadnavis,

Your country is planning to build a memorial in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Mumbai. This memorial could have very negative effects on the marine life in the area and needs to be stopped until these problems can be mended.

Greater planning needs to be done in the realms of evacuation during storms as well as waste disposal. In addition, the boats that will be necessary for the building of the memorial will pollute the sea and could potentially spill oil in the area. Please use your position to protect the environment as well as uphold cultural values and traditions.

Although the memorial to Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji is culturally significant, it threatens the sea life in the Arabian Sea and is not sufficiently prepared for monsoon weather.

Please suspend construction of this memorial.

Sincerely,

  1. PROTECT THE FISH IN THE ARABIAN SEA FROM THIS MEMORIAL TODAY.

  2. Rosslyn Osborne says:

Surely this monument would be far better built on land than having to destroy and pollute marine life.
Do your pagan gods and or long dead kings and queens really want to upset the balance of nature in the world of being, just to remind people of them? I think not!

  5. I am certain even this king, wouln’t want to do damage to the environment, smarten up.

  6. People are disgusting. Of course as so often is the case religion is the problem here. There is no sea god. There is no “god” at all. There’s far more proof for the ancient alien theory than there is for any other religion yet the mainstream looks at that as a goofball tin foil hat idea. Religion causes war, religion causes hate, religion has caused soooooooooo much violence, religion is basically the cause of a vast majority of the destruction and violence that has happened during human history.

  7. This serves as a GENTLE REMINDER for HUMANS to BE KIND, THINK RIGHT and DO GOOD!!! Always REMEMBER that GOD IS WATCHING and that KARMA does exist as What Goes Around Comes Around!!! Blessings to ALL THOSE KIND SOULS who are ALWAYS there to SUPPORT and to VOICE for all the voiceless, helpless ANIMALS that were created for us to respect, to love, to care and to protect them and NOT otherwise!!! And prayers to all those poor souls that were tortured and murdered ALIVE so that their souls will rest in peace and that they will not be re-born as animals again!!! Let there be LOVE and PEACE on earth so that every living being can live peacefully thus happily!!!

A poor country like India could better invest in its people, monuments do not bring back the dead … In terms of environment it also has a very bad reputation, one of the biggest polluters in the world …
