Target: Chief Joel Fitzgerald, Chief of Police of the City of Fort Worth Police Department
Goal: Fire policeman for allegedly assaulting an African American mother who called him for help.
A disturbing video has just been released that shows an unidentified Fort Worth police officer throwing an African American mother to the ground in front of her children. The mother, 46-year-old Jacqueline Craig, had called the policeman for help after a white man allegedly assaulted her seven-year-old son.
Craig’s son had reportedly thrown garbage on the ground. The white man who saw this allegedly grabbed Craig’s son and choked him. When Craig called the police for help, the police officer at the scene blamed Craig for allowing her son to litter. As a result, the situation became heated and Craig and the policeman shouted at each other.
Although Craig raised her voice, she posed no threat to the police officer and did not deserve to be thrown to the ground so violently and arrested in front of her son and daughter. The video also appears to show the police officer point his weapon at Craig while she lay on the ground. Craig’s daughter was also arrested, but the white man who allegedly choked Craig’s young son walked free.
Such behavior is why there is a distrust of police in our society. The policeman had a duty to protect Craig and her son, not assault them for asking for his help. Sign the petition and demand that this police officer be relieved of his duties permanently. He clearly showed that he does not have the temperament for such a solemn duty.
Dear Chief Fitzgerald,
An unidentified police officer in your department has been videotaped throwing an African American mother to the ground, pointing a gun at her back, and arresting her in front of her children. The mother, Jacqueline Craig, was the one who called the police for help after her son was allegedly choked by a white man. However, she is the one who was handcuffed after shouting with the policeman when he did not arrest the man who allegedly assaulted her son.
This police officer was called to come to the defense of Craig and her family. Instead, he caused them more harm. He demonstrated he does not have the temperament to carry out his duties as a police officer and showed why there is such a prominent amount of distrust in our society between the African American community and police. I demand that you relieve this officer of his duties.
