Stop the Brutal Mutilation of Live Sharks for Their Fins

Target: Frederick W. Smith, CEO of FedEx

Goal: Ban all shipment of shark fins internationally and within the United States.

FedEx is one of the last major delivery services who will ship packages of shark fins. These fins are used in shark fin soup, a luxury dish. Because the fins are used for human consumption, FedEx allows them to be shipped as long as they are packaged properly. FedEx is also likely inadvertently shipping fins harvested from endangered sharks, which is illegal. By delivering shark fins, FedEx is letting an industry that kills 73 million sharks a year continue to thrive.

Shark finning is a cruel process wherein sharks are taken out of the water and put on boats, where their fins are brutally chopped off. Then, the sharks are thrown back into the water, often still alive.  There, they die from suffocation, blood loss, shock, or predation from other fish. It’s a horrific way for sharks to die, but the shark finning industry does not care about the pain they are causing the animals. Because of shark finning, twenty-five percent of all shark species are now listed as endangered.

In 2015, both UPS and DHL pledged to stop shipping shark fins. Now, it’s time for FedEx to help end the brutal shark finning industry. Sign this petition to demand that FedEx stops shipping shark fins.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Smith,

FedEx is one of the only major delivery services who will still ship packages of shark fins. By allowing these fins to be shipped, FedEx is supporting an industry that kills 73 million sharks a year. Many of the shark fins shipped are likely harvested from endangered sharks, which is illegal.

Shark finning is a brutal and cruel process where sharks have their fins chopped off while they are still alive. They are then thrown back into the water, where they will often sink to the bottom of the ocean and suffocate to the death. Or, they will be eaten by other predators. The rampant shark finning has led to approximately twenty-five percent of all shark species being listed as endangered.

I urge you to follow the lead of UPS, DHL, and many other international delivery services and stop all shipment of shark fins. By doing this, you’ll be able to help stop an industry that has decimated the world’s shark population.

Sincerely,

What is the 100th petition addressed to FedEx, they obviously don’t care what the majority of the public thinks & rather cater to greed..Shove it FedEx, will never use your services.

  2. must save the sharks= they are important to the sea now to keep it balanced.

  3. Like Shelli, I am getting really tired of signing these petitions – but I’ll never stop. It seems the people at FedEx have a serious learning disability. They can’t see that some things are NOT worth the money.

  4. Something more needs to be done…as a political drive or initiative.
I fully support the cause..but petition letters are toothless majority of the time unfortunately.

A shark is born with fins for a reason – not to be cruelly hacked off by some greedy human beings. Once these sharks have had their fins hacked off – their chances of survival in the sea are nought. Stop this barbaric practice and countries that import shark fins should be fined hugh sums of money
