Target: George Brandis QC, Attorney General of Australia
Goal: Justice for gay teen who committed suicide due to bullying.
A 13-year-old boy in Australia killed himself after years of bullying and the belief that his classmates wanted him dead. Tyrone Unsworth had been a victim of ridicule, suffering from physical violence and bigoted slurs. The day before his death, he broke down sobbing to a friend about his belief that he was not wanted and that the teachers did not care about his plight.
This is a tragic reminder of the reasons why anti-bullying laws need to be strengthened and enforced worldwide. Another child has taken their own life due to bullying and harassment. While we continue to speak out against it, bullying continues to happen. Children have yet to fully grasp the consequences of their actions, and it continues to lead to unfortunate victims taking their own lives.
We must fight harder every day to bring down bullying and save more lives. Australia must implement stronger anti-bullying laws to ensure that poor Tyrone Unsworth’s death has not been in vain. Sign this petition to demand that Australia push back harder against bullying.
Dear Attorney General Brandis QC,
A gay teen committed suicide after years of bullying and harassment led him to believe that he was not wanted and that nobody cared about his situation. He was only 13 years old and is the latest in an already much too long string of bullying-related suicides. Even as we continue to fight bullying and harassment, it continues to happen and indirectly claim the lives of many children and teenagers.
The world must unite on this front; every country and territory must do their part to outlaw vicious bullying and cruelty in order to save the lives of children and teenagers. Too many have already died by their own hands due to their classmates’ callousness. I demand that you implement and enforce stronger anti-bullying laws in your country immediately.
