Punish Breeders Accused of Forcing Dogs to Live in Filth

Target: Michelle Doyle, Chief Crown Prosecutor, Edmonton, Alberta

Goal: Seek harsh punishments against dog breeders who allegedly forced sick and injured dogs to live in their own feces.

Two dog breeders are facing animal cruelty charges after more than a dozen injured and ill dogs were removed from their custody. Edmonton Humane Society rescuers called the conditions in the facility some of the worst they have ever seen. The breeders were reportedly operating their business through social media, keeping their facilities out of the sight of potential buyers.

According to rescuers, dogs of various breeds were being kept in kennels barely large enough for them to move around. The kennels were full of urine and feces, and the dogs were living in their own filth. The animals had open wounds on their feet and respiratory issues due to the poor ventilation in the facility. The Humane Society also alleges that inadequate food and water was provided to the animals.

Each of the breeders face eight charges under Alberta’s Animal Protection Act. The male, Justin Iverson, faces two additional counts of animal cruelty. Charges against them include failing to provide adequate care for an animal that is wounded or ill, causing an animal to be in distress, and failing to provide adequate ventilation and space.

All too often, breeders focus on monetary gain instead of raising healthy and well-bred animals. Until we start punishing these people more harshly, the cycle of for-profit abuse will only continue. Sign the petition below to demand harsh punishments for anyone found guilty in this case.

Dear Mrs. Doyle,

Two dog breeders are facing charges under the Alberta Animal Protection Act for allegedly forcing over a dozen dogs to live in filthy, dangerous conditions. Rescuers with the Edmonton Humane Society report that the dogs were kept in cages so small that they were standing in their own urine and feces. The dogs had open wounds on their paws as well as respiratory issues from the poor ventilation in the facility.

Breeding operations such as these place profit above the health and well-being of the animals they sell, and are all too common. In order to not only bring justice to these animals, but to help stop this cruel industry by deterring potential abusers, the people responsible for this must be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Breeders should get a new job, maybe in rescue of the millions of unwanted suffering creatures they have breed to be abandon and abused and treated like trash! Please stop the breeding this solution to pet overpopulation is very simple and very effective at stopping the suffering of a quarter billion innocent creatures already here and suffering!

I hope this means this “breeder” will no longer be permitted the privilege of owning or caring for another animal.

  5. Michelle – Please stand with us in the fight against animal abuse by using your position and power to punish these criminals to the fullest extent possible. The Animal Kingdom are citizens of this Earth and it’s high time we showed some respect to the other creatures we share this world with. Thanking you kindly…
