End Violent Ethnic Cleansing

Target: Salva Kiir, President of South Sudan

Goal: Admit that human rights atrocities in South Sudan are occurring and take action to end them.

The United Nations has admitted that ethnic cleansing is occurring in South Sudan at such an alarming rate it may soon be classified as genocide. The nation has only existed for three years, yet it has been in a state of civil war between government troops and individual tribes since its founding. Government soldiers are murdering civilians, factions are growing between the more than 60 tribes, women are being raped, starvation is rampant, and villages are being burned.

In only three years, over 2 million people have fled their homes. Officials warn that this ethnic cleansing based on the ethnicity of citizens and their tribes may rival that of the Rwandan genocide in the 1990s, when 800,000 people were murdered in a matter of months. However, despite the violence, death, destruction, and mass exodus, the president of the nation refuses to admit that ethnic cleansing is happening.

The President of South Sudan cannot ignore the atrocities in his nation; He must face them. The United Nations and the international community is coming together to put pressure on the president and his allies. For the sake of his citizens, he must admit ethnic cleansing is occurring and take action to put an end to it before one of history’s darkest eras repeats itself.

PETITTION LETTER:

Dear President Kiir,

If you truly see yourself as a leader, it is time you admit that your government soldiers are engaging in brutal violence against your own people. You must admit that ethnic cleansing is occurring. South Sudan is a young nation that is already threatened with destruction. Millions have fled and villages are being burned nearly every day.

How can you deny that human rights atrocities are occurring when millions flee and thousands are murdered, raped, or starved? I demand that you admit ethnic cleansing is occurring. Admit that there is a problem in your nation and let the United Nations and the rest of the international community help you restore peace and order.

Sincerely,
