Stop Hacking Up Live Animals at Restaurants

Target: Toby Ann Stavisky, New York State Senate

Goal: Prohibit animals from being prepared alive in restaurants.

Many restaurants in New York are now offering a dish called “sannakji,” which is Korean for wriggling octopus and that is exactly what the meal consists of. One by one, an octopus has its sensitive tentacles cut off. When all the tentacles are hacked off, the octopus is ripped open from the mantle to let all its intestines fall out.

Octopuses, just like me, you and your household pets, feel pain. Each time a limb is severed, a new wave of pain surges through the octopus’ body. Octopuses are incredibly curious and intelligent animals and are known as the “primates of the sea.”

Sign this petition to demand New York lawmakers prohibit animals from being prepared alive in restaurants.

Dear Senator Stavisky,

At many restaurants in New York, a dish called “sannakji” is served, which is Korean for wriggling octopus. The dish is often prepared in front of customers and the show is incredibly barbaric.

During this “show,” chefs cut up an octopus limb by limb until they are all gone. Then the chef rips the octopus open from his mantle to let his intestines fall out. Octopuses, just like dogs, rabbits and humans, can feel pain and can even anticipate it.

These incredibly intelligent animals should not be subjected to this unnecessary torture. Please consider introducing a new law that would protect animals and ban restaurants from preparing animals alive.

  2. what the hell is wrong with this world. its bad enough with all the cruelty going on in slaughter houses just so someone can eat meat for pure pleasure. any place found with this dish on the menu should be shut down and the chefs jailed for animal cruelty. this is utterly disgraceful!!

  3. Some people are so disgusting and I hope they don’t suffer the way they make other living things suffer. Wait, yes I do!!!!
