Target: Ken Dean, Director of Animal Protection Services Alberta, Canada
Goal: Stop and punish a Canadian scammer that injured three kittens by sloppily shaving them and removing their whiskers to look like sphinx cats.
Three Alberta woman have come forward after purchasing cats that they believed to be sphinx cats. The cats were suspiciously covered in cuts. Later they discovered that the cats were really tabbies that had been shaved and had their whiskers removed to make them resemble expensive sphinx cats. The police have yet to identify a suspect in this investigation.
The pictures the women posted of the little kittens, huddled into shivering balls covered in scrapes and cuts, are heart wrenching. It is difficult to imagine how someone could have haphazardly shaved the little orange kitten named Vlad, leaving such a bad gash on his tail that he only narrowly avoided losing it. Then his whiskers where yanked out. All of this abuse was done so that he could be passed off as an expensive sphinx cat to an unsuspecting customer.
The three women came forward after their sliced up “sphinx cats” suddenly sprouted fur. The cats also had their extremely sensitive whiskers removed. Whiskers act as cats touch receptors, making them much more painful to remove than normal hairs. For a cat, being without whiskers is like losing one of your senses.
The CBC News Calgary reported that when Vlad’s owner took him to the vet, the vet said the cat was covered in razor burns. The owner said that “I thought he was crying for his mom, but he probably was in pain,” about Vlad’s condition. The woman paid 700 dollars for the kitten and gave the cat away to another owner after finding that it didn’t get along with her other cat. Hopefully, little Vlad will make a full recovery, but it will certainly be very difficult for the kitten to trust humans again.
This cruelty for profit is disgustingly barbaric and must be stopped. Sign this petition to urge the Animal Protection Services in Alberta Canada to do more to find and punish this heartless scammer before another kitten is abused.
Dear Director Dean,
Three people have come forward with complaints about a scammer that has been shaving kitten and passing them off as sphinx cats. These kittens have been covered in cuts, one of which was so severe that the kitten almost lost his tail. They also had their whiskers removed. Whiskers are very sensitive parts of the cat because they act as cats touch receptors. This person not only scammed their customers, but tortured kittens by carelessly shaving them with no regard for their wellbeing.
The person who is running this cruel scam must be stopped before more kittens are heartlessly abused and more customers are duped. Please catch the perpetrator quickly and put an end to their barbaric scam.
