Target: General Surasak Karnjanarat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment
Goal: Shut down zoo where tigers are kept in concrete pens and forced to perform circus acts under threat of starvation.
At the Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Thailand, approximately 130 tigers are kept in small concrete pens, where they are forced to perform circus tricks for visiting tourists. These cruel tricks allegedly include jumping through hoops of fire, walking across small platforms made of steel, and balancing on a tight wire. According to one of the zoo’s trainers, when a tiger makes mistakes, they’re punished with starvation or excessive limitation of food. Trainers also have sturdy, painful whips that they allegedly use to control the tigers while they’re performing tricks.
Many of the tigers at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo also show signs of malnourishment. According to World Animal Protection International, who investigated this zoo, one of the tigers was so thin that they could see its hips and ribs. Allegedly, one of the reasons why the tigers are malnourished is because of the cruel and unnatural way they are often fed. Guests are encouraged to pay extra for a tiger feeding activity. During this activity, guests shoot boxes with a pellet gun. Each time they hit a bullseye, a piece of meat is released. The tigers all lunge for the meat, with the strongest tigers getting the most food. Because of this competition, weaker tigers often do not get much food, resulting in their emaciated look.
The Sriracha Tiger Zoo must be shut down, and the tigers there must be able to live out their lives in their natural environment. Stand up for the tigers that are forced to live in concrete pens, performing tricks to avoid starvation. Sign this petition and demand justice for the tigers who spend their lives trapped at the Sriracha Tiger Zoo.
Dear Mr. Karnjanarat,
The Sriracha Tiger Zoo in Pattaya allegedly forces its tigers to perform dangerous circus acts, including jumping through hoops of fire. The trainers reportedly use painful whips and the threat of starvation to control the animals and force them to do tricks. Many of the zoo’s tigers also appear to be malnourished, and they spend their entire lives in small concrete pens.
These tigers need to be taken out of this cruel environment where they live under the constant threat of starvation and physical punishment. You have the chance to give these tigers a better life where they are able to roam free and use their natural instincts. For the good of all of the tigers trapped in this zoo that promotes animal cruelty, I urge you to shut down the Sriracha Tiger Zoo.
