Stop Turtles From Being Eaten Into Extinction

Target: Bart R. Yakupzack, Chairman of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission

Goal: Demand tighter restrictions on the collection of wild turtles in Louisiana, so that the population is not brought to dangerously low levels.

While some states have banned or placed restrictions on the collection of turtles from the wild, Louisiana has failed to put enough limits on how many of these animals can be removed from their habitat. It is impossible to know how many turtles have been plucked from the lakes and rivers in the state because the state has only recently required turtle retailers to record how many of the animals they buy.

The United States exports millions of turtles to China every year to be eaten or used as traditional medicine. Turtles are also taken from their habitats to be sold as pets. Wild turtles are already suffering because they have lost a lot of their natural habitat to humans. Turtles are an essential part of the ecosystem. They help to keep rivers and lakes healthy.

According to National Geographic, a Louisiana state biologist, Amy Bass, is drafting new regulations to help control the number of turtles taken from the wild for commercial purposes. In order to ensure that the turtles in the state have a future, it is essential that these regulations are passed.

While most turtles in Louisiana are not currently endangered, the wanton collection of wild animals can quickly get out of hand, especially when trying to sate the appetite of a country as big as China.  Sign this petition to urge the Louisiana wildlife commission to restrict the collection of wild turtles.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Chairman Yakupzack,

While other states have banned or placed restrictions on the collection of turtles from the wild, Louisiana has failed to put enough limits on how many of these animals can be removed from their habitat. It is impossible to know how many turtles have been plucked from the lakes and rivers in the state because the state has only recently required turtle retailers to record how many of the animals they buy.

The United States exports many turtles to China every year to be eaten or used as traditional medicine. Turtles are also taken from their habitats to be sold as pets. Wild turtles are already suffering because they have lost a lot of their natural habitat to humans. Turtles are an essential part of the eco system. They help to keep rivers and lakes healthy.

You have the power to protect these defenseless creatures from being poached for profit. Please vote to strictly limit the number of turtles collected and protect Louisiana’s biodiversity.

Sincerely,

  1. why would you do anything with this vile country, sick evil people. so are you, these dear creatures should be left to live their lives in peace, this is so sickening.

  2. Some USA States are no better than the Chinese when it comes to animal abuse. The Law makers have no guts to ban this and to bring in severe penalties for animal abuse. Now with a forthcoming President like Trump who doesn’t give a fuck about animals, brought his ugly vile sons up to trophy hunt both in Africa and North America and his slut of a daughter dealing in real fur. God help the USA. I don’t know that Obama has done much for animals either.

Then USA deserves a desert, not any biodiversity. And things go exactly in this direction.

    • And why so few signatures on “Reinstate Ban on Cruel Traps” – both on animal petitions and forcechange! Governor Chris Christie, previous leader of Trump’s transition team, appearing to cater to trophy hunters… Under Chris Christie, the spearing of black bears, banned for decades, suddenly REVIVED, and now, the sudden RETURN of cruel foothold traps, banned for the last 30 years, up for final decision…
“Evil prevails when good men do nothing”…

  3. Innocent and defenseless, left at the moods and intentions of every ignorant, disrespectful, evil human.

  4. MUST NOT GIVE ANY TURTLES TO THESE CHINESE TO EAT NOW.

  5. THE CHINESE ARE EVIL DISGUSTING BARBERIANS, THEY EAT ANYTHING THAT MOVES AND THEY HAVE TO LEARN THAT THEY CANNOT BRING THERE VILE EATING HABITS TO OTHER COUNTRIES, THERE HAS TO BE LAWS TO STOP THEM FROM EATING ALL OUR WILDLIFE, THEY ARE RESPONSABLE FOR THE WILDLIFE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY GOING EXTINCT AND NOW THEY ARE DOING THE SAME IN THE USA, PRISON FOR THESE VILE PEOPLE, PLEASE PUT LAWS IN PLACE TO STOP THEM FROM EATING TURTLES AND OTHER INNOCENT CREATURES.

  6. USA do you want to be thought as low as China?? You’re better than they are, don’t become as stupid and ignorant and uncaring as they are….please

  7. I can’t believe the USA is doing this!!! This really ought to be stopped immediately, although with that beastly redhead at the helm, it’ll probably get even worse!

    • China has apparently decimated it’s OWN turtle population, certain states making up for the Chinese shortfall… In recent years, states such as Florida and Texas have banned or restricted capture, fearing overcollection could lead to the collapse of wild populations…
Louisiana state biologist Amy Bass is said to be drafting new regulations, wild turtles already suffering because they have lost a lot of their natural habitat to humans, but those regulations still have to be voted on, and passed…

  8. Before we know it, China will have have consumed virtually ALL the worlds precious wildlife, either to eat, to wear or just to give them bragging rights. We must all do whatever we can to protect each and every species endangered by these selfish, greedy, thoughtless and careless people.

  9. America is getting a reputation for animal abuse and damaging ecology. It seems that their pathetic laws and penchant for eating anything that moves( like backward china) without any thought of driving animals to extinction. Thoughtless, mindless gluttons.

  10. Maria Mahyorova says:

I don’t sign. Because biodiversity is not the thing that should be put dirst. First – there is no way to kill a turtle humanely. Ban turtle meat in general! Caught from wild or raised in horrible farms – both is unacceptable. If Chinese have nothing to eat they should stop breeding as mad.

USA WAS NO WORSE THAN CHINA AND OTHER NATIONS SO WHY ABUSE THEM IN ANY WAY?

  13. We have much on our menus to choose from — we have much fruit, much veggies, grains, I can go on and on — must we KILL everything just because NO ONE STOPS US? — Must we KILL everything just because money can be made? — Isn’t anything sacred? — Don’t we have standards? — What about morals? — Don’t animals have the right to their own lives? — What’s more, our natural world needs its wonderful turtles – Where’s our conscience? — Where’s our rationality? — Where’s our compassion? — Money can be made in so many other ways. LEAVE THE TURTLES ALONE — LET THEM LIVE!

  14. The Chinese are disgusting ass people!
They will eat anything that moves.
Our government needs to put federal bans on any and all Wildlife trades, deals, and sales.
These animals deserve to be left alone and live their lives in peace where they belong.
Too bad we have a whacked out nutjob like Trump coming into office, he don’t give a rats ass about animals. Really to be honest I don’t think Trump gives a shit about anything but, lining his own pockets.
He will run our country into the ground and bankrupt the shit out of our country all in the name of lining his own pockets.
Trump should have been given a extensive mental exam before being allowed to run for president.

  15. China – the Black Hole that consumes all! All that crawls is eaten!
