Target: Thomas Jodoin, City Attorney of Helena, Alabama
Goal: Seek the most severe penalty possible for adoptive parents who allegedly locked a boy in the basement for two years.
A 14-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life after police say he was locked in a basement by his adoptive parents for the majority of two years. At only 55 pounds, the severely malnourished teen weighs half of what someone his age should weigh. He was denied food, water, and medical care and locked inside the basement as a sick form of punishment, police say.
This teenager would still be wasting away in that basement if it weren’t for doctors’ suspicions. He was receiving treatment at a hospital and the staff reported his condition to authorities, according to reports. Even when he recovers physically, the trauma inflicted upon this innocent child will likely continue to haunt him.
The adoptive parents, Richard and Cynthia Kelly, were charged with aggravated child abuse. Please add your signature to the petition below to make sure this young man gets the justice he deserves and his alleged abusers get the most severe penalty possible.
