Target: Donald Trump, President-Elect of the United States
Goal: Recognize climate change as a serious international issue.
President-Elect of the United States, Donald Trump, does not believe in global warming or the effects of climate change. He has openly stated that climate change is a “hoax” perpetrated by the Chinese government. He has also promised to revoke support of the Paris Agreement, which seeks to eliminate greenhouse gases.
Trump cannot be bothered with scientific facts and evidence. Despite the fact that 97 percent of scientists believe that climate change is caused by harmful human activity, Trump continues to promote the burning of fossil fuels and rampant industrialization. In only a few months, the United States will have a president who thinks science is a lie, despite the very obvious and very real effects of climate change.
We cannot have a president who is blind to the facts, and who will gladly destroy the only home we and billions of others have. Trump cannot deny that the ice caps are melting, the sea levels are rising, droughts are lasting longer, hurricanes are stronger, and hundreds of animals are dying. The evidence is in front of him. As our nation’s future president, he must admit that the scientists are correct and, unless we change our ways, our planet will die.
Dear Mr. Trump,
You ran your campaign on the platform that global warming and climate change are lies. However, a majority of Americans and over 97 percent of scientists disagree. Climate change is not a “hoax.” Climate change is very real. You do not have to look far to see its effects: the droughts in California, the uncharacteristic floods sweeping our nation, the rising sea levels, and the growing list of endangered species.
If you wish to truly be successful as President of the United States, you cannot remain blind to truth. You cannot lie to millions because it fits your platform. Climate change is real and Americans demand that you recognize this. We only have one planet and no second chance.
