Target: Beth Drake, U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina

Goal: Demand the maximum penalty for the man who allegedly kidnapped a woman and kept her chained like a dog.

A South Carolina woman was reportedly kidnapped and chained inside of a storage container for months. Her alleged kidnapper was an acquaintance. Demand justice for this innocent woman.

Spartanburg County deputies heard banging on the walls of a storage container while searching a suspicious property. Inside, they found 30-year-old Kala Brown chained by the neck. Brown reported that she’d been trapped inside of the container for two months and that her kidnapper fed her regularly. Brown’s boyfriend, Charlie Carver, disappeared at the same time as Brown and is still missing.

Deputies arrested Todd Kohlhepp on charges of kidnapping. He is currently incarcerated. Sign below and demand the maximum penalty in this case if Kohlhepp is found guilty of these horrendous acts.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear U.S. Attorney Drake,

A woman was found locked in a storage container with a chain around her neck. She was identified as Kala Brown, a missing person. We demand justice for this innocent woman.

Todd Kohlhepp, the owner of the suspicious property, was arrested and charged with kidnapping. He was previously convicted of kidnapping in another case and is a registered sex offender. Deputies received reports of dead bodies on his property and reportedly found weapons and ammunition scattered throughout. No bodies have been found yet, but the search continues.

Brown is recovering, but is reportedly traumatized. Her boyfriend is still missing. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.

Sincerely,

have u seen a woman on a leash?

  2. Jenna Miles says:

I do object to the term ‘chained like a dog’ as if it is suitable for dogs.

I agree, I would not want to see any person or animal treated this way. The language used in this petition really bothered me.

  3. Of course, the main issue by far is that we have an evil perpetrator and a victim who suffered horribly. However, quotes like “like a dog” seem to imply that it would be OK or normal to treat a dog like this. It is NOT OK to treat a dog like that – it is extremely abusive. The phrase “chained ‘like a dog” has become identified with and even synonymous with this high profile case. Far too many people, particularly in the South, chain a dog to a tree and leave it out year long in the worst kind of weather, etc. – it’s equally bad to have it confined to a cage or even small area. It’s more accurate to say that the victim was chained and confined in a way that would be extremely abusive to a human or to any animal. (And don’t say/write “even to an animal” – it’s NOT, in any way, OK to be abusive to animals or humans.)

I sincerely hope that Kala can find a way to deal with this heinous nightmare that probably felt would never end. I likewise pray the her boyfriend Charlie, is found, preferably alive.
So this is another perpetrator that was jailed and released as ‘reformed’ and ‘safe’ to be out on the streets. Registered Sex Offender? Prior kidnapping?
Don’t you just ‘love’ the judicial system these days???

…and for the murders since discovered.
