Target: Howard E. Gwynn, Commonwealth’s Attorney
Goal: Punish owner for allegedly abusing dogs on video, and do not return the dogs to his care.
A Newport News man was reportedly caught on camera by his neighbor hitting one of his dogs, and now faces two counts of animal cruelty. The video has since gone viral, and the two German Shepherds are being kept in a shelter until the case goes to trial, at which point a judge will determine whether to return the dogs to the owner, Ahmed Elsafty.
Elsafty denies hitting the dog, saying that he was making a loud clapping noise to scare the dog and discipline him. However, there have already been six calls to animal control on Elsafty, and five of those have come in the last three months. Additionally, the dog’s former trainer says that she witnessed Elsafty hit his dogs multiple times, including making “a whip motion with a nylon leash,” and that she intends to testify as a witness at Elsafty’s hearing. Sign below to ensure this man is punished for his allegedly abusive behavior, and that these dogs are not put at risk of further brutality.
Dear Mr. Gwynn,
Ahmed Elsafty is being charged with two counts of animal cruelty after a video captured him allegedly hitting one of his German Shepherds. The dogs are being kept at a shelter until Elsafty’s trial, at which point it will be determined whether they will be returned to him. The well-being of these dogs relies on the outcome of this case, and it is vital that their health be the top consideration.
Elsafty says that he did not hit the dog on the video, that he was simply disciplining the dog by loudly clapping his hands. However, animal control has been called on him six times in the past, and the dogs’ former trainer says she witnessed Elsafty hitting the dogs multiple times. Please ensure justice for these dogs and do not return them to their alleged abuser.
