Target: District Attorney Kenny Wright, Delaware County, Oklahoma
Goal: Overturn decision to return animal victims to their alleged abusers.
Fifteen dogs have been returned to a home from which they were previously removed under suspicion of animal cruelty. After 40 dogs were removed by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, the owners were charged with 10 counts of felony animal cruelty. The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, which spent over $30,000 rehabilitating the dogs after their removal from the home of Chris and Clare White, is concerned for the well-being of the dogs and cannot understand why they are being returned to owners who are still facing charges of animal cruelty.
When they were rescued, one of the dogs had an untreated mammary tumor, several had mange, and three were so unhealthy and in such pain that they had to be put down on the spot. Additionally, an Oklahoma statute requires that before a defendant can request the return of their animals, they must have a bond hearing within 10 days of their arrest, pay that bond to cover boarding and medical care for the animals, and be found “not guilty” in a court of law. None of those requirements were met by the Whites, so it is not only immoral but unlawful for these dogs to be returned to their alleged abusers. Sign below to demand that this decision be overturned.
Dear District Attorney Wright,
The decision made by Judge Alicia Littlefield to return 15 dogs to their alleged abusers is unjust and dangerous for these animals. The owners, Chris and Clare White, still face 10 felony charges of animal cruelty, and these dogs are being put at risk by this ruling.
The Oklahoma Alliance for Animals has spent over $30,000 rehabilitating these animals from conditions that resulted in mange, tumors, and the necessity to euthanize three of the dogs on the spot because they were in such bad condition upon their rescue. Returning dogs to these conditions is immoral, and it does not comply with the Oklahoma statute that requires a bond hearing, payment, and a “not guilty” verdict in a court of law for a defendant to request the return of their animals. Please uphold the law and do not allow these dogs to suffer any further. I urge you to overturn Judge Littlefield’s decision to return these innocent and helpless animals to their alleged abusers.
