Target: Jeffrey Gennette, President of Macy’s, Inc. and Terry J. Lundgren, CEO of Macy’s Inc.
Goal: Stop selling products from the Ivanka Trump Collection.
Ivanka Trump has always stood beside her father during his presidential campaign, even amidst his hypocritical and sexist tendencies. After she defended his apology for the rude comments he made over the hot mic about groping women, one woman finally had enough and started #GrabYourWallets. This hashtag demands that retailers stop selling Trump’s brand and also encourages buyers to boycott stores that keep her products on the racks. It is time to stop putting money into the hands of people who promote sexism and other forms of discrimination.
The majority of Trump’s clothing line is labeled as “imported” and primarily comes from China and Vietnam, both countries that violate human rights and international child labor laws on a regular basis. While her father goes around criticizing companies for taking American jobs overseas, she sells dresses and blouses likely sewn by the tiny hands of foreign youths. She used her Republican National Convention (RNC) speech to promote her brand, posting to social media about the dress she wore that night. The dress, which is imported and costs over $100, sold out in less than three hours, putting a lot of money into her pockets.
Shannon Coulter is the woman behind the hashtag meant to stop the sale of the Ivanka Trump Collection. She has been a victim of sexual harassment herself and felt that it was time to take a stand. As a marketing specialist, she knows how to reach a wide audience and maintains a Twitter account with a pinned tweet listing all the stores who sell Trump’s clothing line—and where to shop instead. Sign this petition to support the boycott and demand that stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stop promoting and selling Trump products.
Dear Mr. Gennette and Mr. Lundgren,
I am writing to ask that you stop carrying the Ivanka Trump Collection in your Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s stores. Since the hot mic leak in which Donald Trump admitted to molesting women, Ivanka Trump has stood by this man and previously used his campaign to market her clothing line. After her RNC speech, she promoted her outfit on Twitter, and it sold out within three hours. I don’t believe that a name supporting sexism should be marketed to women and encouraged to profit off your customers.
The Trump name is hypocritical, and efforts supporting it should not be fueled. While her father reprimands companies for sending jobs overseas, Trump’s clothing brand outsources most of its labor to China and Vietnam. She considers herself a champion for women’s rights but then supports one of the most sexist men the media has ever seen. I urge you to stop promoting the Trump name and pull this clothing line from your stores.
