Target: Erik Solheim, Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme
Goal: Take action to combat and reduce C02 levels in the earth’s atmosphere.
Levels of CO2 continue to climb and have recently reached a dangerously high mark. C02 levels have far exceeded the 400 parts per million benchmark, and experts warn that they may not sink below this level for “many generations.”
The troubling findings come from the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), an organization responsible for monitoring weather patterns. According to WMO, the high levels for the most recent year are due in part to a particularly powerful El Niño event, but the majority of blame falls on the human race and its excessive creation of greenhouse gases.
The most recent data reveals that methane levels are 2.5 times higher than those found in the pre-industrial era, and nitrous oxide was 1.2 times greater as well. Multiple studies have made it explicitly clear that these increased concentrations have directly contributed to climate change.
Reducing C02 levels is essential in the fight against global warming. Sign the petition below and demand action be taken to lower levels before it is too late.
Dear Mr. Solheim,
I am writing to call your attention to an extremely troubling report from the World Meteorological Organisation that reports record-high levels of C02 in our planet’s atmosphere. These findings suggest that climate change will only continue to worsen if immediate action is not taken.
The WMO’s report places the majority of the blame on humanity’s excessive production of greenhouse gases. A problem of this magnitude cannot be solved by any one country; we need an organized and cooperative global effort. Your organization is uniquely poised to lead such a movement, and I urge you to do everything in your power to reduce these dangerously high C02 levels.
