Target: County animal services, City of Dallas, City of Mesquite, City of Garland, Dallas County,
The stray animal issue needs to be addressed as a collective effort by the entire county and not just one city. Why not pool services and resources to address this head-on? We all know that animals travel. We need to take care of the stray dog issue along with the stray cat issue together. Again, as I said animals travel thus making this a countywide issue.
One thing to correct this issue is for pets to not be let out loose in the yard unless there’s a fence or some type of restraint system to prevent them from wandering away. There is a leash law for a reason and it needs to be followed and enforced. If a police officer sees a dog loose in a person’s front yard they should contact animal services to follow up with the homeowners. No law is too small to enforce and no crime is too small to report and be dealt with. It’s a crime to treat animals as some have treated them. I know of one issue where a dog is purposefully let outside in the front yard. The dog got ran over and even before the dog’s cast was off they had it loose in the front yard again! They know full well why and how it got hurt yet they still don’t do what they need to do in order to keep it from being loose in the yard. This type of stuff must stop!
