Stop Using Live Tiger as Mascot at Football Games

Target: F. King Alexander, Chancellor at Louisiana State University

Goal: End the use of live tigers as mascots at sporting events.

For the past few years, Louisiana State University (LSU) has been bringing out a live, caged tiger during its football games. Their last tiger, Mike VI, has unfortunately lost his battle with cancer and died while imprisoned at LSU. While we were unable to help Mike VI, or the six tigers that came before him, we have a chance to stop LSU from purchasing another tiger.

Holding wild animals captive is damaging to their physical and mental health. LSU’s seven tigers were brought out into a large, chaotic, and loud stadium filled with screaming fans. These tigers are trapped and terrified in their cages. These animals deserve the life nature intended, which includes other tigers, sunshine, and open fields to run and play in.

Sign this petition to ask LSU to stop using live animals as mascots during games. It is cruel and unnecessary to buy another tiger and force them to live their life alone in a cage.

Dear Mr. Alexander,

For years, LSU has been using live, caged tigers as mascots during football games. Your last tiger, Mike VI, has unfortunately lost his battle with cancer. This is the seventh tiger that has died while imprisoned at LSU. I am hoping he will also be the last.

Holding wild animals captive is severely detrimental to the animals’ mental and physical health. It is even more detrimental to force these animals into a huge arena filled with people and screams. Then when they are done being paraded around, they are left to waste away alone in a cage. It is a sad world for these tigers and it is all for unnecessary human entertainment.

Please consider making Mike VI your last tiger and ending the use of live animals as mascots. These animals deserve to be in the wild living the life nature intended.
