Target: Dr. R.M. Kharb, Chairman of Animal Welfare Board of India
Goal: Shut down facilities accused of neglecting their animals to collect antitoxins.
Horses, donkeys and mules across India are held in facilities for the sole purpose of producing antitoxins. After receiving clearance, PETA India and professionals from esteemed veterinary colleges inspected these facilities and what they found was atrocious.
Inspectors report that they found many of the animals were suffering from numerous, serious ailments including infected wounds, bleeding, swollen limbs, blindness, and anemia. Basic husbandry needs for these animals were clearly neglected and most were quite fearful when humans came too close.
Sign this petition and demand the Indian government shut down these abusive facilities and encourage facilities to use cruelty-free, non-animal derived methods of producing and collecting antitoxins.
Dear Dr. Kharb,
Recently, PETA India and experts from some of the most prestigious veterinary colleges inspected the facilities where antitoxins are produced and collected. These facilities use horses, donkeys and mules in order to obtain the antitoxins. What inspectors say they found was hell on earth for these animals.
The animals were clearly suffering and had obvious injuries and ailments. Many of the animals seen were malnourished, blind, anemic, bleeding, had infected wounds or swollen limbs. In addition, basic husbandry needs were clearly neglected and these animals were very fearful of humans. It was apparent life at these facilities was full of fear and pain for these animals.
Please consider shutting down these cruel and abusive facilities. These animals suffer every minute they are forced to live within those walls. There are many cruelty-free ways that do not use animals to produce antitoxins and it is time to take advantage of that technology.
