Target: Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Union
Goal: Overturn decision by European Union that would send unlimited numbers of Afghan asylum-seekers back to their war-torn country.
The European Union has just passed a controversial agreement that would deport an “unlimited” number of Afghan refugees, forcing them back to their home country which has been devastated by war and violence. Possibly tens of thousands of refugees will be forced back to Afghanistan.
The European Union has often accepted refugees fleeing war-torn nations. However, controversy has ensued in recent years as the number of refugees has increased to the millions. European nations have since looked for ways to steady the migration of refugees. However, the way in which the European Union came to this decision is questionable, after memos were leaked suggesting that the EU would pledge financial aid to Afghanistan if it took back its citizens.
The citizens of Afghanistan are in direct danger. While this very decision was being made, the nation was being attacked by Taliban fighters. The nation experiences numerous human and women’s rights violations. To force these refugees back to Afghanistan would be to force them back to a war zone where many may not make it out alive. Sign the petition to ask that these refugees continue to be given asylum in the EU.
Dear President Juncker,
The European Union has been praised for its willingness to help the millions of refugees fleeing the violence and war of the Middle East. However, the EU has just passed an agreement that would force unlimited numbers of Afghan refugees back to their war-torn country. These men, women, and children risked their lives and gave up almost all of their worldly possessions just so they could reach countries that were free of the violence induced by the Taliban. I ask you to reconsider the EU’s motion and to continue to provide aid and support for the refugees.
