Target: George Amato, Director of American Museum of Natural History

Goal: Send the alligators and crocodiles imprisoned in the American Museum of Natural History to an accredited sanctuary and stop the museum from encouraging visitors to buy animal skin products.

At the American Museum of Natural History in New York, alligators and crocodiles are on display through a glass wall. Every day, these animals are forced to endure loud crowds and people banging on the wall of their small enclosure. It is a very sad and unnatural life for these animals.

In the wild, alligators and crocodiles can travel long distances, socialize among others, and swim and explore freely among the rivers, lakes, bushes and trees. At the museum, there is not much to explore for these animals. In addition to being confined in such a small area, the American Museum of Natural History encourages visitors to buy alligator and crocodile skin products.

Sign this petition to demand the American Museum of Natural History release these animals to a sanctuary and stop encouraging visitors to buy animal skin products.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Amato,

The mission of the American Museum of Natural History is “to discover, interpret, and disseminate knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.” Keeping alligators and crocodiles in small enclosures does nothing to teach people about the natural world.

In the wild, alligators and crocodiles can travel long distances and will socialize with others of their kind. They are free to explore rivers, lakes, and even land. Unfortunately, there is not much to explore in captivity. Captive life is unnatural and depressing for these animals.

In addition, your museum encourages visitors to buy alligator and crocodile skin products. These products typically come from factory farms where crocodiles and alligators are over-bred, confined in much too small of spaces, and killed early in life. There is nothing more unnatural than that.

Please consider sending your alligators and crocodiles to an accredited sanctuary where they can live the natural life they deserve. In addition, please stop encouraging visitors to buy animal skin products.

Sincerely,
