Severely Punish Couple for Allegedly Starving Animals to Death

Target: Mike Miller, Cleveland County, North Carolina District Attorney

Goal: Seek the harshest penalties possible for EMS worker and former Deputy for alleged cruelty to animals.

A sheriff’s deputy and an EMS worker were charged with animal cruelty after multiple dead animals were reportedly found at their home. Some of them had been starved, according to reports. Thomas Brigman, who recently worked in the detention center, and Courtney Brigman, an EMS worker, were charged with two counts of starvation, four counts of failure to dispose of or bury livestock, and seven counts of animal cruelty.

Sheriff Alan Norman told outlets that he’d just recently found out about the incident and after an investigation, terminated the deputy. Courtney Brigman’s employer hasn’t said if the EMS worker will be fired or not.

The sheriff’s department didn’t release details about the poor animals, but it seems clear that they suffered tragic, painful deaths at the hands of two careless people. Even in death, it seems the animals still didn’t matter any to the Brigmans. Instead of being properly disposed of or buried, their lifeless bodies were left to decompose.

Starving animals is purely cruel and negligent. These people are supposed to uphold the law and serve and protect their county, so it’s completely unacceptable that they allegedly allowed this to happen.

While the deputy was terminated, officers who have been “terminated” are often just reassigned to another county, basically getting away with their crimes. That’s why it’s imperative that we put pressure on the authorities. Please sign this petition demanding that these cruel people are fired indefinitely and never allowed to own animals again, if guilty.

Dear Mr. Miller,

A  deputy and an EMS worker were charged with seven counts of animal cruelty after dead animals were reportedly found on their property. According to reports, their charges include two counts of starvation and four counts of failure to dispose of or bury livestock.

Allowing animals to starve to death is cruel. It’s a shame that a deputy and an EMS worker could be capable of caring so little about innocent animals. The deputy has since been “terminated,” but that doesn’t mean he won’t be reassigned to another location, working in law enforcement. We urge you to make sure that they’re fired from their positions indefinitely, punished to the maximum extent possible, and banned from owning animals, if guilty.

  1. Gen Lovyet Agustsson says:

see what happens to dinosaurs millions of yrs ago? stop making animals starve! animals need food and water not starve them!

  2. If ever there was a case of animal abuse this is it. Starving these animals took some time and these animals suffered before death.Put these two animal abusers in jail. Please, don’t let them get away with this.

  3. An eye for an eye.Only the death penalty will suffice!

  4. justice for these animals now. not by termination to these lame people. off with their shitty heads now.

  5. “I wouldn’t trust my dog with them” used to be a stock comment about cruel owners. This pair and others like them need to be charged with felonies and put away for a long time. What barbarians! To cage animals and not even give them a chance to forage on their own. No water. No food. Just exposure to the elements and starvation. An EMS worker? Not for me. A sheriff’s deputy in charge of my protections? No thanks.

  6. Suggestion to petitioner, Kendra Richards: Keep checking with MIKE MILLER, Cleveland County, North Carolina District Attorney. Every month. If there is no progress to charge these animal abusers, let us know. We’ll apply more public pressure! Also, give us the name of the EMS worker who also appears to be involved in this despicable, criminal animal abuse.

    • Rosslyn Osborne says:

Aren’t the two, named as Thomas and Courtney Brigman Diane?
They both need to be jailed and placed on the Animal Abuse Registry and never be allowed any ownership or access to any species of animals for the rest of their lives… Possibly never have children either (if of that age group. They should never be allowed to be reinstated.
