Target: North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple
Goal: Stop militarized police aggressively attempting to intimidate peaceful protesters working against the construction of the dangerous Dakota Access Pipeline.
Over 100 peaceful protesters were gathered in prayer near the construction site of the Dakota Access Pipeline when airplanes, helicopters and militarized police vehicles filled with armed officers were deployed in the area. This inhumane and needless treatment of peaceful protesters is unacceptable. Stop these militarized police from their aggressive intimidation of protesters.
Native Americans and other peaceful protesters have been working to stop the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline, an oil pipeline that would run through sacred Native land and could create irreparable damage to Native water supplies. Elders and children were reportedly among the protesters at the time of the prayer.
Police were allegedly armed with shotguns, assault rifles and tear gas. There were also reports of police illegally confiscating protesters’ phones and deleting any photos or videos of police violations.
These protesters are just peacefully fighting for their human rights and the rights Natives have to their land. The response by police has been in direct violations of their rights and must be stopped. With the recent spotlight on police brutality, these threats by police have to be taken seriously. Demand the end of militarized police trying to intimidate and incite protesters of the unethical and dangerous Dakota Access Pipeline.
Dear Governor Dalrymple,
As you know, Native Americans and other peaceful protesters have been trying to stop the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. They are completely entitled to protesting this dangerous pipeline, and their concerns and human rights should be addressed by you and your government.
Instead, threatening militarized police have been deployed in planes, helicopters and armed vehicles in an attempt to intimidate these protesters during a prayer where children and elders were present. It’s repugnant that peaceful protesters are being treated this way. I demand you stop militarized police from being deployed where protesters are.
