Target: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
Goal: Praise country for allowing treatment-resistant addicts access to pharmaceutical-grade heroin as a means of controlling their addictions.
Canada is helping people addicted to heroin by allowing them controlled access to relatively safe heroin in order to avoid withdrawal and satisfy cravings without engaging in illegal activity. This controversial new plan seeks to help addicted people who have repeatedly failed to respond to traditional rehabilitation treatments. It prevents severe addicts from overdosing or contracting HIV from dirty needles as each dose is administered by a health care professional that is a capable of responding to a medical emergency.
The drugs come from a pharmacy, so there is no risk that it was cut with dangerous chemicals. Addicted persons don’t have to resort to criminal activity to obtain the drug. Drug dealers also lose the profits from long term users. Addicted individuals are still placed to into rehabilitation programs, but this program is being used as last resort for users who still need help but just can’t kick the habit.
With the epidemic of opioid and heroin use that many countries are facing, this policy is a compassionate and logical step in the handling of long term addicts. With the rising cost of incarcerating non-violent drug offenders, this approach is a viable and constructive option for the future.
This new policy treats drug users as patients with a problem rather than criminals who should be in jail. It effectively minimizes both the health risks and criminal activities caused by drug use. Sign this petition to applaud Canada’s new policy that could help save lives and reduce the social costs of drugs.
Dear Prime Minister Trudeau,
Congratulations on passing a progressive new policy that allows treatment-resistant addicts access to pharmaceutical-grade heroin as a means of controlling their addictions without having to resort to illegal activities or take health risks associated with drug use. It is heartening to see Canada taking a stand against those who dehumanize addicted individuals by classifying them as criminals. It is a great idea to take measures to protect the health of addicts. This new policy could substantially reduce the number of drug related deaths and crimes within Canada.
Hopefully other countries that are suffering from potentially deadly opioid and heroin epidemics will follow Canada’s example and treat drug users as patients in need of treatment rather than creating more criminals. Please work to continue to pass progressive policies that seek to help rather than criminalize addicts. Thank you for treating these people with compassion and understanding.
