Protect the Grand Canyon From Mining by Koch Brothers

bears-ears-by-brewbooks

Target: President Obama
Goal: Protect our public lands from polluters like the Koch brothers who want to open new areas to destructive mining.

President Obama has established more new national monuments than any president in history, but there is still work left to be done. Congress keeps trying to undermine laws that protect our lands and polluters like the Koch brothers are gunning to open new areas to destructive mining.

Environmental advocates around the country are urging President Obama to keep protecting our lands and establish Utah’s Bears Ears region, El Paso’s Castner Range, the Gold Butte region in Nevada, and the area surrounding the Grand Canyon as national monuments.

We have already seen President Obama is willing to act, but only if we raise our voices loud enough. Sign the petition asking the president to build on America’s conservation legacy and designate these four new national monuments.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Obama

We love our parks. As we mark the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service, I want to thank you for protecting so many of our public lands and defending our environment.

From the Cesar Chavez National Monument in Keene to Stonewall National Monument in New York City, you have ensured our most treasured places are safe for future generations to enjoy. But I know you can do more!

Four remarkable places in the United States need immediate protection and you are their best chance. I urge you to establish national monuments in Utah’s Bears Ears region, El Paso’s Castner Range, Nevada’s Gold Butte region, and expand protections in the Greater Grand Canyon area. Please build on your impressive legacy by designating these parks before the end of your administration.

Sincerely,

  7. KatWrangler says:

The vast majority of the Grand Canyon is owned by the Federal Government, HELD IN TRUST for the American people and managed by a varied collection of federal agencies (HA!), Indian reservations, state land, and private land surround these federal lands.
OK – held in trust. I don’t TRUST any politician who has dollar signs in their eyes. The Grand Canyon is NOT FOR SALE!

  8. Koch brothers support Clinton for president and have pumped in millions as she is a wall street lobbyist.

Enough with the greed. There is very little in it for the workers but all about profit for the owners who will ship overseas and leave a mess to clean up for the Tax payers. Not to mention ruining the landscape.
