Racist Congressman Must Resign

Target: Congressman Robert Pittenger

Goal: Resign after making racist remarks about black people following the death of Keith Lamont Scott.

A Republican Representative said that protesters in Charlotte upset at the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott actually just “hate white people because white people are successful and they’re not.” Robert Pittenger of North Carolina then linked it to welfare, saying that black people are used to being taken care of by the state and therefore can’t be successful. A congressman saying such an incredibly racist and ignorant statement is completely unacceptable. Robert Pittenger must resign.

After Pittenger’s comments went viral, he attempted an apology hours later saying he was anguished over what was happening in Charlotte and made comments that he regretted. He then went on to apologize to anyone he offended rather than apologizing for making racist comments. To make matters worse, Pittenger’s district includes parts of Charlotte.

It’s disgusting and inadmissible that a U.S. congressman made racist statements like this about the very people he is supposed to represent and serve, and it shows that he is unfit for his position. Demand Representative Pittenger resigns.

Dear Congressman Pittenger,

Police brutality is a national crisis moving thousands across the country to protest the wrongful deaths of black men and women at the hands of police officers. Rather than empathize with the people you represent who are upset with this issue, you chose to make ignorant, racist statements against black people who had absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand.

Your job as a congressman is to work for the people and to create solutions to the problems that are important to your citizens. You instead revealed that you are a racist who does not deserve the privilege of working for the people of North Carolina. I demand you resign immediately.
