Target: Seema Nanda, Chief of Staff of the United States Department of Labor
Goal: End the racial wage gap in the United States.
Black workers today earn far less than their white counterparts, specifically young black women. With women already earning less per hour than men for working the same jobs and positions, this officially makes young black women among the lowest-earning minority groups in the United States regardless of their experience, skill level or education.
The Civil Rights movement has been in effect for more than half a century. Segregation is largely a thing of the past, but it is clear that racism is still alive and well in today’s America. As if the murder of so many black men by the police was not bad enough, black workers are grossly underpaid. The racial wage gap has not been this bad in almost 40 years, which is quite depressing. For a black worker to be paid so little for working just as hard as their white co-worker is simply disgraceful.
Companies should be required to pay all employees the same wages depending on their position within the company or their skill level, not their gender or race. Black workers deserve better than what they are getting. Sign this petition to demand companies close the gap and start paying their black workers the same as their white workers.
Dear Ms. Nanda,
Black workers are grossly underpaid compared to their white counterparts regardless of their skill level, education and experience. The racial wage gap is the worst it’s been in almost 40 years, and young black women in particular are suffering very badly due to this.
Whether the companies guilty of this are racially prejudiced or simply misguided, it cannot continue this way. Black workers deserve better than this, they deserve to be paid as much as white workers for performing the same tasks. Please implement and enforce new policies to be followed by companies, demanding equal pay for all races and genders.
