Target: Tulsa Mayor Dewey F. Bartlett, Jr.
Goal: Investigate fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher, an unarmed man gunned down by police.
An unarmed man has been killed by an officer who was responding to a report of a stalled vehicle. In recently released dashcam footage, Terence Crutcher can be seen walking away from officers with his hands in the air before approaching the driver’s side of his vehicle, where he is then tasered and fatally shot.
The incident, which occurred in Tulsa, OK, is yet another instance of an unarmed citizen being gunned down by police. Initial accounts from responding officers suggest that Crutcher was not obeying officers’ commands, but a police spokesperson admitted that the department was still unsure as to why officers felt compelled to shoot and kill the man.
After being shot, Crutcher can be seen in the video lying in a pool of blood by the side of the road. He lies there for nearly two minutes before receiving any medical attention. The same police spokesperson confessed that she “[doesn’t] know that we have protocol on how to render aid to people.”
From the incomplete dashcam footage to the inconsistent responses from officers, there are a number of questions surrounding the death of Terence Crutcher that need to be answered. Sign the petition below and demand a complete investigation into this tragic death.
Dear Mr. Bartlett,
I am writing to express my grave concern about the death of Terence Crutcher. Shot dead by police, Crutcher was unarmed at the time of his death and appeared to have his hands in the air. Details surrounding his death are unclear, as police dashcam footage is incomplete and officer testimony does not completely explain why Crutcher was shot.
An incident such as this demands immediate investigation. This man lost his life, and justice must be served if in fact officers used excessive force. Please use all available resources to investigate this shooting and bring closure to Crutcher’s friends and family.
