Success: Thousands of Wild Horses Saved from Unnecessary Slaughter

Target: Neil Kornze, Director of U.S. Bureau of Land Management

Goal: Applaud cancellation of cull that would have killed thousands of wild horses.

A government-sponsored cull of wild horses has been cancelled, meaning that thousands of wild horses will not be pointlessly killed. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced the cancellation after animal rights activists, including a petition on ForceChange, expressed outrage about the senseless and violent plan.

Wild horse populations have skyrocketed in recent decades, and experts estimate that there are now about 67,000 horses living in America, mostly in California and Nevada. While such a high number can pose a threat of overgrazing and land encroachment, slaughtering these animals is an unnecessary and excessive solution.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management initially planned to kill thousands of horses, but the plan was met with immediate resistance. In response to the outcry, a bureau spokesman announced that the agency will “continue its current policy of caring for unadopted or unsold wild horses and burros.”

This encouraging reversal serves as proof that dedicated activism can change the world. Sign the petition below and thank the BLM for preserving these wild horses.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Director Kornze,

I am writing to express my relief and satisfaction concerning your department’s decision to cancel a cull that would have killed thousands of wild horses. Though it would have solved the issue of overpopulation, it would have been an inhumane and senseless solution.

I understand the burden that these animals represent, and I appreciate your department’s efforts to care for them. Slaughtering them, however, would be the least desirable option, and I applaud your decision to work towards a more humane solution. Thank you for this decision, and I wish you luck as you work towards a different approach to the matter.

Sincerely,

Let’s hope this is really a cancellation and not just a postponement or a trying to get the same result by some stealthy means. I don’t trust a single human anymore when it comes to doing the right thing by animals.

    • Exactly Sandra, the government and industrial complex are not to be trusted. They do not care about morality or the lives of others, except themselves. What will happen I assure you, is the selling of great numbers to these inbred redneck Americans in the south who profit from the slaughter of such in Mexico and Canada. No moral competence in leadership, we as a country and the world have become so materialistic(idolatry)subjective in our interpretation of morality, is has no value any longer(god is dead). 🙁

  2. Each horse slaughtered is a felony. The so called “advisory panel” voted to recommend the BLM commit 46,000 felonies. Time for this panel, except for the one who voted to save them, to be replaced with members of the public who will make responsible legal decisions regarding these animals.

  3. great, good to know that petitions are useful

I just found out this isn’t true! The Cull of thousands of Wild Horses is still being planned! We must continue to fight the BLM!

    • One can always rely on government to lie and deceive its’ own public. The American Government is no different than Iran, N. Korea, Africa, or China.

  5. Thank you for saving these beautiful horses from being killed but wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to just to neuter the males????

    • Right on Tanya!! Now why don’t THEY think of that? It just boggles my mind-how there is so little common sense used in government programs like this-it’s really sad!☹️

  6. Somebody at last has come to their senses! I applaud you

  7. I hope its true. If it is thank you for having a good heart and mind if it isn’t true and the horses are killed I can only pray for Karma for evil people

  8. Hooooray!!! Please don’t kill!!! I agree Anita Culling: I hope its true. If it is thank you for having a good heart and mind if it isn’t true and the horses are killed I can only pray for Karma for evil people

  9. Okay-so how do we find out just what the truth really is? Was the slaughter canceled or not? If not where and when is this slaughter to be held?? Maybe some Forechange representatives and we common people need to do a “show” at this slaughter site! I really despise liars-they are such worms-no backbone what so ever!!

  10. Oops had one last thought-wouldn’t it be just and fitting if the BLM culled themselves right out of a gov service and job!!?
